Design Highlights from Maison & Objet 2024

From futuristic interiors to eco-friendly designs, discover my 10 top picks ✨

For those unfamiliar, Maison & Objet is one of the most significant interior design trade fairs in Europe, held bi-annually at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center. Described as one of the “top 3 European events for interior design”, it’s an unmissable gathering of the best in furniture, decor, and design from all over the world. The fair is a mecca for interior designers, architects, retailers, and design enthusiasts, offering a chance to discover the latest trends, innovations, and inspirations under one roof. This September edition didn’t disappoint—it was a treasure trove of creativity and forward-thinking design.

Walking through the endless halls of bold furniture, innovative lighting, and striking décor, I found myself immersed in a world where artistry meets functionality. The event is a true celebration of craftsmanship, and each year, it pushes the boundaries of what interior design can be. Whether you’re into minimalist modernism, love vintage flair, or are eager to explore futuristic styles, Maison & Objet serves as a vibrant playground for every kind of design lover.

1. Imagine living in a cosmic-inspired home where the future meets the present!

One trend that really stood out this year was the rise of futuristic interiors. Picture living in a home that feels like it’s from another planet—a seamless blend of sleek, clean lines, metallic accents, and unconventional forms. Think space-age lighting fixtures that feel like they belong on a starship and furniture that appears sculpted out of liquid metal ⭐.

These designs invite us to envision a home that’s both a sanctuary and a gateway to the future. The innovation here was mind-blowing, offering a peek into how we might be living in years to come.

2. 70s interiors are making a stylish comeback — but with a futuristic twist

Retro is back, and it’s bigger and bolder than ever! This year’s Maison & Objet brought a wave of nostalgia with designs reminiscent of the groovy 70s, but with a modern, space-age twist. Earthy brown and orange hues dominated, but they were paired with contemporary forms and futuristic materials, offering a refreshed take on retro aesthetics 🧡🤎.

It’s a time-travel trip, fusing the best of the past with forward-thinking design ideas.

3. The perfect vanity to recreate a 70s-inspired space-age interior

Space age vanity from Puces de St Ouen

If you’re as enchanted by the 70s revival as I am, you’ll love this find from the iconic Parisian flea market, Les Puces de Paris Saint-Ouen. The vanity I spotted brings together vintage charm with ultra-modern design—a true fusion of styles that’s perfect for any eclectic interior. With its retro colour palette and futuristic silhouettes, it felt like a glamorous piece of functional art 🛸.

This is definitely a standout for anyone looking to bring a bit of space-age glamour into their home!

4. Second-hand design was also shining brighter than ever ✨

Infinite collection from Gimmic Design

Sustainability was front and center at this year’s Maison & Objet, and one of the most innovative examples was the INFINITE© collection by Gimmic Design. Made entirely from industrial scraps—specifically cardboard tubes that would otherwise be destined for incineration—this collection transforms waste materials into lightweight yet incredibly sturdy furniture pieces. It’s a brilliant example of ‘surcyclage’ (or overcycling), where discarded materials are not just recycled but creatively repurposed into something even more valuable. The minimalist yet functional designs prove that second-hand can be just as stylish as brand new, all while championing eco-friendly practices 🌍. A true testament to the future of sustainable design!

5. These lamp designs are sure to make you craving for donuts 🍩!

Bumbum collection from Ferroluce

One of the quirkiest finds at this year’s fair was the playful lighting collection from Ferroluce. Their designs were whimsical and fun, with pendant lights that instantly brought to mind everyone’s favourite sweet treat. These donut-inspired lamps aren’t just for dessert lovers; their soft glow and cheerful shape add a sprinkle of fun to any room. It’s the perfect example of how design can be lighthearted yet functional 😋.

6. Speaking of food, we got our 5-a-day—just in a more playful way 🍎🥕!

Vitamin collection from Marcantonio for Seletti

Seletti never fails to surprise, and this year was no exception. Their fruit- and vegetable-inspired designs turned everyday objects into art pieces. From lamps shaped like bananas to colourful plates that look like they’ve been picked straight from the garden, their playful approach to decor is a reminder that home styling can be both functional and fun. It’s a great way to bring a pop of colour and humour into the kitchen or dining space!

7. No parrots were harmed in the creation of this incredible armchair 🦜

Possibly one of the most eye-catching pieces at Maison & Objet was this whimsical armchair covered in life-like plush parrots! AP collection continues to push the boundaries of what furniture can be—turning seating into conversation starters. This chair feels like a daring, tropical escape, and while it may not be for the faint of heart, it’s undeniably a statement piece that brings a burst of nature-inspired joy into the home. And don’t worry, no real parrots were involved 😜!

8. The MOM Village exhibition brought a fabulous display of bold pinks 💗

Maison & Objet’s MOM Village exhibition was a treasure trove of creative talent. From soft pastels to faux marbled tables, the exhibition had a major pink moment! Standout pieces from Galerie Sana Moreau and Coki Studio embraced this trending hue in the most sophisticated way, offering furniture and decor that felt both fresh and timeless. Whether you’re into muted blush tones or vibrant magentas, pink proved itself as a versatile shade for the modern home.

9. Those colourful stools are sure to rock your world — and they’re comfortable too 🌈

With a rainbow of colours to choose from, these pieces are perfect for brightening up patios, gardens, or even indoor spaces that need a bit of life. 10. And finally, the pièce de résistance—an incredible handmade mosaic

If there’s one piece that truly took my breath away, it was this stunning mosaic. Handmade by the talented Chifoumi studio and Samy Halim Art, this intricate piece of art is a testament to craftsmanship and creativity. The vibrant colours and geometric patterns draw the eye in, and it feels like a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. Whether displayed as a wall piece or integrated into a floor design, it’s a true showstopper for any interior space ✨🎨.
